Did you know that the easiest stringed instrument to learn is one that a lot of people have never heard of?
It's filled with the history and mystery of a long ago era. It's not the harp or the lute or the harpsichord. It's the lyre. The 6 or 7 string lyre.
Maybe you have always wanted to learn an instrument, but worried that you don't have the time or patience.
Maybe you have been told that you're not musical.
Or maybe you play one or more instruments, and want something new to impress your friends.
If any of those sound like you (or something in between), the lyre is for you.
A lot of people think they're not musical.
Everyone can learn the lyre.
With no frets or complicated fingerings, the chords are simple to learn. As a music teacher, I've seen the struggles of students learning to play a new instrument. Many instruments have a steep learning curve, or take a lot of time to master. After seeing my child with ADHD sitting down and learning a song on the lyre in a sitting, I realized that all of the challenges that made other instruments difficult, were things that didn't need to be learned on the lyre. The lyre can be easily learned, by people of all musical abilities. And, of course, the skills are transferable to and from instruments like the guitar and ukulele.
By the end of this course, you will be playing songs, while strumming or fingerpicking on your lyre.
Playing an instrument is good for your mental health.
Playing an instrument has many benefits, including:
- Creating Seretonin (Happy Hormones!)
- Helps with Focus and Memory
- Improves Self Esteem
- And So Much More!
What will I learn?
This course takes you from looking at the lyre and wishing you could play, to being able to play, for relaxation or to accompany songs on the lyre. This step by step course has everything you need to learn to play, even if you've never learned anything about music before.
The course teaches the 6 main chords used on the lyre, and teaches 7 songs, using the chords to help you master the skills of both strumming and picking or fingerpicking chords on the lyre.
It is created for those wanting to learn the Anglo Saxon 6 string lyre, with a bonus section to adapt it to the smaller modern 7 string "bean" lyre (as found on Amazon), and various 7 string "Viking" lyres that were in use during the 5th-14th centuries in Scandinavia, Germany, Great Britain, and other parts of Europe. We use a 6 string Anglo Saxon lyre to teach these lessons and help you bring music into your life, with the modern 7 string lyre used in the bonus course to adapt it to the 7 string lyre. All skills learned work for the 6 & 7 string lyres, and PDFs are available for both the 6 and 7 string lyres for all songs.
We also have resources available to help you learn to tune your lyre, find a lyre to buy, figure out how to hold your lyre, use a pick, and other frequently asked questions, as well as PDFs to go along with the course (No music reading skills required!)
Also, as a bonus, see 3 tips to learn to play more easily!
